Singles Camp

Yes naman! Singles camp na!
I've been a youth camper for seven times since I was 11 and it just dawned on me that anytime soon, I'd have to accept the fact that I'm getting old and I have no choice but to kiss youth camps buh bye. I just turned 19 (legit age for Singles Camp) few days ago and four days after my birthday, my parents sent me to Singles Camp? Aba, teka lang naman. Haha no. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Since I'm the only participant from my church, my ever supportive best girlfriend, Jesti, went along with me.

M'kaay. Here we go. Tenen! DAY 1.
Woke up extra early. Drove to Laguna BelAir to meet-up with other campers. We arrived at Playa Calatagan around 10:30am, saw familiar faces, hi hello, sat and pondered what to expect. Though I've known those people for almost half of my life, I still felt that awkward feeling. Errrrmm, okaaay. But orientation came which all of the singles (that's how the camp director calls us waaw) would come in front and introduce themselves. When it's my turn to introduce, the camp director said "Kilala nyo na 'to e." There were three Rachels in the camp so I told them to call me Chel instead. The day went on with tent assignments, worship, afternoon devotional and our free time. During our free time, it's our choice whether we go kayaking, volleyball, soccer, biking or beach swimming. In the evening, after dinner, we had evening devotional with Ptr. Audie in which he talked about "the ideal state". He said that the ideal state right now for the singles is to have a relationship, a companion, a friend, not necessarily marriage. After devo, we went straight to dorm chat with our dorm brothers and sisters.

DAY 2.
5:30am morning exercise, blech. I'm not a morning person, so yea. But breakfast came along, my mood went from cranky to happy tummy. After worship, morning devotional was given by Ptr. Rex. Aaaand, free time! I just slept inside the tent. Mwahaha. Next up, amazing race! I was part of Team 3 that we agreed to call Team Awesome. Started off the game making our team flag, which I was in no way helpful, and made our very own kite that has to stay up in the air for 30 secs (we kinda cheated on this part teehee). Next stations: fill up a pipe, open the crate underwater, malunggay juice pong, spiderweb, bike on circles, fear factor-ish, and setting up a fire (which we failed to do). The highlight of this amazing race was me eating a live worm. Yuuum! NO. And guess what, our team came last!!! Hahahaha! That's okay, though. After dinner, ladies and gents put on their something floral get-ups biicozzz it's time for tentenenen.. dance night, a.k.a pungay night. You know how it goes, guys ask girls to dance bla bla bla. Ladies are also encouraged to ask a guy they want to dance with during 'Ladies' Choice'. Ohdiba. But after three dances, I heard that there are turtle eggs that just hatched! So my friend and I ditched dance night and just searched for more baby turtles. It's my first time to see baby turtles and it's definitely an aawwww moment.

DAY 3.
This happens almost every camp: after pungay night, almost everyone wakes up late. Yay for me! More time to sleep and no 5am exercise! Teehee! Right after breakfast, we didn't move from our seats for our breakfast table is where the morning devo will take place. Ptr. Gil gave the devo about money vs. integrity, which will make you go "Hmm.." After devo.. Aquaria tiiime! No more salty water swimming! After lunch, time for afternoon devo with Ptr. Vergil. In the afternoon, my team in talent show met up for brainstorming and practice. I was really happy with what we came up with. We brought nothing but buttloads of laughter to the campers and staff. Ohdiba. Told ya, we're funny! Our bit was entitled iPad Festival, which we launch the so-called iPad Earth Wind and Fire. I'm one of the controllers; we would zoom it in, zoom it out, play Dumb Ways to Die, Temple Run, and watch YouTube. Nope, it's not the usual boring iPad, it's lifesize and 3D! The segments were: Saan aabot ang 20pesos mo? (Playa Edition), Tales of the Friendzone, flaring and Al's ladlad moment of Wrecking Ball. Teehee! We won the third place! Woot woot!

Thank you for sharing my first Singles Camp experience with me, Jesti!
Oh wait. Did I mention that someone got banned from Singles Camp next year? Why? Coz they got engaged!!!! Yep, they got engaged on December 29 right before the talent show. Earlier that day, Jesti and I just asked the couple of they had plans of finally settling down. Akalain mo nga naman, mamaya lang engaged na! Oh, I'm talking about ate Cynthia and kuya Jocer. Yieee!
